BEOWULF: A Geatish hero who fights the powerful monster- Grendel, Grendel's mother, and the mighty dragon. He is said to be "the hero of all heroes", who makes a vow to protect the people of Herot. He stays true to his dedication and risks his own life to prove that he is able to defeat anyone, as well as save the people of Herot from the great danger Grendel posed to them.

GRENDEL: A descendant of Cain, who is said to be the first murderer in history. He is a monster who is half-man and half-fiend. He possesses superhuman strength and uses this to taunt the people of Herot in the darkness for twelve years while everyone is asleep. He resides in a gloomy, murky, swamp- like environment which is very similar to hell. He is eventually killed in battle by Beowulf.

HROTHGAR: He is the king of the Danes and shows great dedication and compassion for his warriors. He builds a Mead- Hall for his people and warriors to go to celebrate their lives and their victory. Although he is honored greatly by his people, he does not have the supernatural strength to battle Grendel, therefore allowing Beowulf to come in and save Herot.

GRENDEL'S MOTHER: Similar to Grendel, she is too a monster who possesses abnormal strength. She lives in an underwater swampy- like environment, where she dies in battle with Beowulf. She kills Aeschere as a way of revenge for Beowulf assassinating her son, Grendel.

WIGLAF: He is Beowulf's most honorary warriors. He accompanies Beowulf in his last battle, with the dragon and stays by his side until the very end. Beowulf passes his power on to Wiglaf for his dedication and his power to never give up or leave his side, which is a key characteristic when it comes to Anglo-Saxons and their citizenship with one another.

     CHARACTERS

AESCHERE: He is the honorary warrior and companinon of king Hrothgar. He is brutally murdered by Grendel's mother after she finds out that Beowulf kills her son, Grendel. His corpse is left sitting on the edge of the cliff so the people of Herot are aware of this horrendous deed.

THE DRAGON: This is the main enemy who ends up killing the great hero, Beowulf. The dragon's duty was to protect and guard the treasure, but when he received an unexpected visit from Beowulf, he took out all his wrath on him and assassinated him.
